Window in Venice - A Watercolor Project
with Derek Gundy

The first workshop in our new "Watercolor Project" series features a lovely rose plant on the balcony of a majestic Venetian window. Illustrator Derek Gundy will guide you step by step through this watercolor painting - demonstrating techniques in each layer.

Materials for Roses in Venice Watercolor Project

I use M. Graham Watercolors

  • Ivory Black (darks)

  • Cobalt Blue (cooler washes in window)

  • Burnt Sienna (base color for bricks)

  • Prussian Blue (color for shadows)

  • Additional colors for plant - you can adapt the plant as you wish - greens, flower type, color, etc.

Assortment of watercolor brushes - a small flat brush is helpful in painting bricks, approximately 3/16" or 1/4" in width.

About your Watercolor Workshop with Derek Gundy

Artists Derek Gundy will guide you step by step through this beautiful painting of a window in Venice, featuring a potted plant on the edge of the balcony - you can personalize this plant as you like with Derek's guidance. This workshop is ideal for painters who have have a little experience with watercolor, but it is good for all levels as the initial drawing & design for the watercolor is provided for you and each student will be able to transfer the shapes onto their paper before starting the first layers.

Transfer paper will be provided for all students - and for students who need the specific colors that Derek uses for this painting we have a "kit" below that includes some of the major paints & supplies.

For students who need a little help with supplies - considering this kit - which has a good portion of the supplies needed for this project. It can be a fraction of the cost of purchasing individual tubes of paint, etc.

Brushes are not included as this is largely a personal preference for artists, however we do have some very basic brushes at the studio which you are welcome to use if you like.
